Victoria Falls Farewell

Victoria Falls is a magical place and a dream destination for anyone interested in photography. I could continue posting images for many more weeks but I have other destinations to cover and so this will be the last of my series of photographs. I hope you have enjoyed the journey as much as I have. Minimal narrative has been included in this post as the photos tell their own story.

The Zambezi Helicopter Company

I have decided to give two shout-outs in this post. The first goes to The Zambezi Helicopter Company ( who took me on a remarkable flight over the falls and surrounding area. It was my first aerial photography experience and it took my breath away. My thanks go out to the management and staff of this highly professional company.

Ilala Lodge – Victoria Falls

My second acknowledgement goes to Ilala Lodge ( . The accommodation was grand, the food superb and the staff amazing. I wish to express my appreciation to a top class management team and delightful crew from both the lodge and the activities department. I am already planning my next visit.

Victoria Falls – The Splendour of

I continue this week with more images of Victoria Falls. It is almost impossible to capture the full splendour of this 108 metre high and over 1700 metre long marvel of nature.

Victoria Falls Rain Forest

The Victoria Falls Rainforest is an area of dense woodland vegetation which is very different from the surrounding vegetation. It stays lush and green all year round and has developed as a result of and nourished by the constant spray from the waterfall. This dense forest only exists where there is year round spray from the waterfall.

Victoria Falls – Main Section

It is not always possible to get a clear photo of the main section of the falls due to the heavy mist.

Bushtracks Express Steam Locomotive

The locomotive pulling the Bushtracks Express train is steam driven and adds to the nostalgia of this relaxing sunset tour. Guests are welcomed aboard with a drink and red carpet. Boarding takes place through the lounge car where more drinks and snacks are offered and guests can get comfortable before starting the journey to the Victoria Falls Bridge and back.

Taking a helicopter flight over the falls is the best way to appreciate the sheer size of this natural wonder.

Every view of Victoria Falls is different and it’s sheer power, size and beauty never ceases to amaze me.

The helicopter pilots of Zambezi Helicopter Company stay at a safe distance from wildlife in order not to startle them and cause anxiety.

Victoria Falls (cont.)

In just a few days it will be Christmas and I hope all my readers will be together with their loved ones. I wish everyone a joyous and safe festive season and I hope to continue your acquaintance in the year ahead.

It has been a number of weeks since my last post on Victoria Falls but I still have a plethora of photos to post from my visit to this very special part of the world. I will try to have these all edited and published over the next few weeks before moving on to my next adventure.

Victoria Falls – Zambezi River Sunset

A must do activity when visiting Victoria Falls is the sunset cruise on the Zambezi River above the falls. It is wonderful way to relax after a long flight or hectic day of wild adventure. You will get to see many different birds and animals and the prize towards the end of your cruise is a magnificent sunset.

Helicopter Aerial Photography Shoot – Victoria Falls

There is no doubt that my best photography shoot experience so far is the aerial shoot from a helicopter above the Victoria falls and surrounding area. There were a few nerves before the flight but Zambezi Helicopter Company staff were extremely professional and anxiety was quickly replaced with exhilaration and excitement.

Ilala Lodge Nightscape – Victoria Falls

I was lucky enough to have one clear evening whilst staying at Ilala lodge in Victoria Falls. This allowed me to capture the Palm Restaurant and the multitude of stars in the background. As an aside, the food at the restaurant rates as the best in the area.

Batoka Gorge Rainbows –Victoria Falls

Rainbows line the walls of the Batoka Gorge as mist from a small part of Victoria Falls rises high in the background. The Zambezi River was low at the time of my visit but the views of this ‘Wonder of the World’ still amaze.

Elephants From The Air – Victoria Falls

Part of the extended helicopter ‘Flight of Angels’ with Zambezi Helicopter Company at Victoria Falls is to fly over the National Park. Do not miss this option as the chances are you will see a variety of wildlife including Elephants and Hippo.
